Can anyone guess the theme for the year???
Garrett had so many little surprises during his birthday...During lunch with Daddy he said, "I'm going to the bathroom. You can surprise me again when I come out."
Garrett really had to have a LEGO Indiana Jones set...which they no longer make...So, mama had to get out the big guns and do a lot of searching for just the right one...
Wyatt helped me build the Lego set and then he made a treasure hunt for Garrett to search for it. (Have you figured out the theme yet?)
This clue was on the ceiling...Garrett had to use his whip to get it down!
Yay!! for treasures...
Now...If you have ever been to any of our birthday parties you now that this mama gets a little crazy...True to form we transformed our house into an Indiana Jones Adventure!!! Thanks to Travis, Wyatt, Garrett, and Alyssa this party was a blast!!
The kids started out at Barnett College where they received word that several artifacts had been stolen. They were to train and head out into the jungle to recover the Gold Idol (a C3PO figure...Garrett's idea!)
The training was dart shooting...Garrett wanted to play Indiana Jone's tag which, in his words, meant to pick one person to be Indiana Jones and then the rest of the kids chase him with blowdarts. Yeah, sounds fun...But, mama decided to make a target, stick it to the glass door and use our blow darts to shoot Nerf bullets at it...The blowdarts were 9-inch pieces of PVC pipe covered in camo duct tape! Not my original idea :( but very cool!
I made "Indiana Jones bags" (satchels) out of brown felt for the goody bags...very simple but, I received a lot of comments how the kids continued using the bags. Inside the adventurers found a compass, a dart gun, 2 nerf bullets, an Indy travel log (notebook), and a pencil.
While in the jungle, they were to search for 6 gold coins and the next clue...The coins were used to pay for passage from the Tiki God guarding the Spider Tunnel.
We made our way into the Mummy Gallery where the kids had to wrap up each other using rolls of toilet paper looking for the clue that was at the end of the roll. This was a great game! Too funny!
After we found the clue we headed into the Snake Pit. We decorated the boys Bunkbeds with lots of snakes of all sizes and colors...It really looked awesome! Alas, I have no photos to prove it! The kids had to cross the ladder to make it to the clue which instructed the kids to grab the Gold Idol and RUN! because the giant boulder was chasing them! (Garrett had me use my exercise ball as the big rock...great idea!)
Next, we had to go to the Excavation Site where we had a blast digging for 'buried treasure.' Then, we traveled all the way to the Shanghai Nightclub looking for Blue Crystals and the next clue.
I made felt whips for my kids...Here is Garrett demonstrating how to use it:
After playing with the balloons we made our way in to enjoy the Pankot Palace Banquet. They were serving Eyeball Soup (grapes in water), Monkey Brains (red jello), and Beetle Guts(cooked rice). Yum! I think all the kids took a turn looking for the clue. Somebody screamed!! Pretty fun...
We had another game of searching for the Sankara Stones...which where Easter Eggs. The clue was in the golden egg.
And, lastly, we sent a few of the 15 kids in to the secret place to retreive the stolen Ark of the Covenant...Our plans were foiled on this one because we could not find dry ice anywhere!!! What the??? Is this just an Oregon thing??? So, Garrett's idea was to put white packing peanuts inside to represent the ghosts that fly out of the Ark.
This was not the cake that we had planned, but...Mama ran out of time!! It was still delicious and had all of the important elements!!
Blowing out the candles...
It was a very intense, and exciting party!! We had crepe paper, balloons, and TP spread all over the house as soon as the last gift was opened!!
Here is just a sampling of the friends in the Indy get-ups:
Happy 6th Birthday, Skippito!!! We love you!
